Travel Mishmash – On top of my list features Étoile. This café is so great that I also toyed with the idea of devoting one whole post to this and only spot. No kidding, it really is that awesome. Clearly this is an incredible fresh starter on the KL’s café and dining scene and for all the good reasons.
So what’s the charm that other places don’t have? Despite a certain degree of fanciness – and trust me I don’t indulge in fancy stuff – it’s just the way Étoile wraps it in an amazing elegance, which is unpretentious, unobtrusive and genuinely welcoming. You won’t feel inadequate here. This new star in KL dining is simply nonchalantly unique. In addition, leaving the beautiful decor and tastefully designed space aside, you can’t but notice the professionalism of the staff which I haven’t encountered anywhere else in Malaysia nor KL in the entire 6 years of my existence here. What’s more, it surprisingly improves even if you become a regular.

Tatler Malaysia – How can anyone resist these dapper desserts from EQ Kuala Lumpur’s Étoile Bistro? Choose from a Manjari Mochaccino Layer Cake (orders on this cake have to made at least one to two days in advance), a Coffee Pralinosa Moist Cake, or dainty Caramel Mocha Noisette Cigar Petit Gateaux.
Buro 24/7 – The Dragon Boat Festival (or Duanwu Festival) is widely celebrated by Chinese all over the globe. The festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth month on the lunar calendar, which is 14 June this year. In China, people will use this three-day holiday to travel to popular destinations around the country. With travel restrictions set in place, it looks like the festival will continue to look a little different this year.
This year, EQ is offering six different rice dumplings made with delicious pairings. Chef Tan Tzaan Ling recommends the Traditional Hakka Style Rice Dumpling, which is filled with chicken, salted egg yolk, mushrooms, black-eyed beans, and scallops. Prices of the dumplings range from RM32 to RM71.

EQ’s Étoile Bistro has teamed up with Los Angeles-based meat substitute brand Beyond Burger to launch the 100 per cent vegan, plant-based Étoile Beyond Burger, with no soy or gluten. Reflecting the name Étoile—which means “star” in French—the burger features star-shaped buns and a plant-based patty topped with crisp lettuce and tomatoes. Optional add-ons include hand-cut fries, avocados, portobello mushrooms and salsa.

For starters, dig into crowd-pleasing classics such as the Urap Pucuk Manis dan Taugeh, Kerabu Limau Bali, Udang Harimau dan Kacang, as well as the tantalising seafood on ice section which includes fresh selections of mussels, tiger prawns, baby scallops and more. The carving station features succulent Kambing Golek, heartier favourites can be found at the main buffet area with dishes like Gulai Lemak Cili Padi Daging Salai, Assam Pedas and the signature Nipah Kari Laksa.
Kam Eat With Me – To mark the holy month of Ramadan, EQ’s Citarasa Nipah has a dizzying selection for Buka Puasa, extending the hospitality to include dishes from the neighbouring South-East Asian region too. Executive chef Hafizzul Hashim revealed his prowess at cooking up an amazing range that one would be hard-pressed to say ‘Can’t find what I like’. The buffet spread has a decidedly home feel to the dishes as you feel you’ve been invited to someone’s home rather than a commercial establishment.
